What is involved in a Skin Check?
A skin check begins with a thorough medical history review, including your skin concerns and any family history of skin conditions. The doctor will then conduct a comprehensive examination of your skin, looking for unusual moles, spots, or growths, particularly in overlooked areas like the scalp and between toes. They assess any changes in size, shape, or color that may indicate skin cancer or other conditions. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss specific concerns, making skin checks an essential part of preventive healthcare for early detection and management of skin issues.
Mole Mapping
Mole mapping is a specialized process that involves the use of digital photography to create a detailed record of your moles and skin lesions.
This technique allows for precise monitoring of changes over time, making it easier to detect any irregularities that may indicate skin cancer or other skin conditions.
During the session, high-resolution images are taken of your skin, focusing on existing moles and spots. These images are then stored securely and compared during future appointments to track any changes in size, shape, or color. Mole mapping is a valuable tool in proactive skin health management, providing peace of mind and aiding in early detection
Here at East Randwick Skin Cancer Clinic we use DermEngine software which also has AI capability to track any changes in your moles.

Skin Biopsies
Skin biopsies are a diagnostic procedure used to examine suspicious skin lesions or abnormalities more closely. During the procedure, a small sample of skin is removed, using a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. The biopsy can be performed in several ways, including punch, shave, or excisional biopsies, depending on the type and location of the lesion. Dr. Trent Stapleton will personally perform these procedures, ensuring a high level of care and expertise. Once the sample is taken, it is sent to a laboratory for histological analysis, where a pathologist examines it for signs of skin conditions, including cancer. Skin biopsies are essential for accurate diagnosis and play a crucial role in determining the appropriate treatment for various skin issues.
